Move-out cleaning checklist: room by room

By Roamza Cleaning Services · Updated

Quick answer

A move-out cleaning should cover the kitchen (countertops, backsplash, sink, appliance exteriors, inside the microwave, cabinet exteriors and inside empty cabinets and drawers, stovetop and range hood), bathrooms (toilets, tub and shower, shower glass, sinks, vanity, mirrors and empty cabinets), and every room’s baseboards, doors and frames, blinds, window sills, accessible ceiling fans and light fixtures and floors. The home should be empty or mostly empty.

  • Move out furniture and boxes, or group what’s left in one area.
  • Make sure utilities (water and electricity) are still on.

Tips for tenants & landlords

  • Tenants: review your lease’s move-out requirements and photograph each room after cleaning.

  • Buyers & new owners: a move-in clean before unpacking is the easiest moment to reach every cabinet and floor.
